About Our Pond Dredging & Restoration Service

Ponds don't stay the way they were built. Year after year, silt and organic muck settle to the bottom, the banks slump and erode, and cattails and brush creep in from the edges — until the pond no longer holds its design volume, looks murky and choked, or stops draining the way it should. HOAs, ranches, communities, and property owners across Sarasota and Manatee counties call us to bring a pond back to life.

We dredge out the accumulated muck and silt, restore the pond's original depth and volume, and reshape and stabilize the banks and shoreline so erosion doesn't undo the work. Where a lake bank has washed out or slumped, we rebuild it and armor it against the wave action and stormwater that tore it up in the first place. The result is a pond that holds water, drains right, and looks the way it was meant to.

This is the maintenance and restoration side of pond work — for ponds that already exist. If you need a brand-new stormwater pond dug to an engineered plan, that's our retention pond excavation service; if you want a new recreational or ranch pond, see pond excavation.

Restored-to-Function Guarantee

We dredge and reshape your pond back to a stable, draining condition. If the banks we rebuild or the depth we restore don't hold up as promised because of our work, we come back and correct it.

Why Florida Ponds Silt In — and What Dredging Fixes

Florida's sandy soil, flat terrain, and heavy summer rain move a surprising amount of sediment. Every storm washes fine silt, grass clippings, and organic matter into a pond, where it settles to the bottom as muck. Add decades of leaf drop and dying vegetation and even a well-built pond loses depth, its water turns murky, and its banks slump inward — until it no longer holds the volume it was designed for or drains the way the site needs it to.

Dredging reverses that. We pull the accumulated muck and silt back out, restore the original depth and storage volume, and reshape the banks to a stable slope. For stormwater retention and detention ponds, that also means the pond goes back to meeting its permitted design — holding and releasing water at the rate the plan calls for.

Pond Dredging & Restoration Process

How Pond Dredging & Restoration Works

01

Assess the Pond

We measure the pond, gauge how much muck has built up, and check the current depth against where it should be.

02

Dewater & Permit

We manage the water, set up erosion control, and coordinate any dredging or water-management permit.

03

Dredge & Reshape

We dredge out the silt and muck, restore the design depth, and reshape and stabilize the banks and shoreline.

04

Haul & Finish

Spoil is hauled off or placed on-site, the edges are graded clean, and the pond holds water the way it should.

Lake Bank & Shoreline Restoration

The edge of a pond or lake takes the most abuse — wave action, foot traffic, mowing, and stormwater runoff all chew away at the bank until it slumps, undercuts, and washes sediment right back into the water. On community lakes and larger ranch ponds, that erosion also eats into usable land and can threaten fences, cart paths, and structures near the water.

We rebuild the bank back to a stable, graded slope, re-establish the shoreline, and armor it where it needs to hold — riprap, a re-graded littoral shelf, or compacted regrading tied into the surrounding drainage. Done right, the restored bank stays put and keeps the sediment you just dredged out from coming straight back.

"Lethermon Excavating is a company that takes care of your excavating needs from A to Z. Customer service is very high, and that's hard to find in this day and age. He is currently working on our retention ponds, before moving on to take out 37 dead Cuban Laurels so we can start planning the enhancement project at our site."

"Kameron and his team are great. We hired Kameron to rebuild a berm to keep water away from our condo building. He provided useful advice when we scoped out the project and constructed the berm efficiently, quickly and with high quality. We value reliable contractors who perform quality work at a competitive cost, and we will be using Kam and his team for future projects."

FAQ

Pond Dredging & Restoration Questions

My pond has filled in with muck and won't hold water — can you fix it?
Yes. Over time ponds silt in, banks erode, and vegetation takes over. We dredge out the accumulated muck, reshape the banks and side slopes, restore the pond's original design volume, and stabilize the edges so it drains and holds the way it was built to.
How much does pond dredging cost in Florida?
It depends on the pond's surface area, how much muck has accumulated, equipment access, and whether the spoil is hauled off or spread on-site. There's no flat rate — we assess the pond in person and give a clear, no-obligation quote for the actual scope.
Do you restore eroding lake banks and shorelines?
Yes. Wave action and stormwater eat away at lake and pond banks until they slump and wash out. We rebuild the bank back to a stable slope, re-grade the shoreline, and armor it with riprap or a littoral shelf where it's needed so the erosion doesn't come right back.
Do I need a permit to dredge a pond?
Often, yes. Dredging, dewatering, and work in or around water are regulated by the county and the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD). Retention and detention ponds have their own permit conditions. We coordinate the permitting as part of the job so nothing stalls.
Do you work for HOAs and communities, or just private owners?
Both. We handle pond and lake restoration for HOAs, community associations, and ranches, and we do smaller private ponds for individual property owners. We're fully insured and can provide a certificate of insurance for association or property-management requirements.
